The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), through an order dated 23rd February, 2026, has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹50,000 on The Guntur Women Co-operative Urban Bank Limited, Andhra Pradesh.

The penalty has been levied for non-compliance with certain RBI directions on ‘Know Your Customer (KYC)’. The action was taken under Section 47A(1)(c) read with Sections 46(4)(i) and 56 of the Banking Regulation Act

Inspection and Supervisory Findings

The statutory inspection of the bank was conducted by RBI with reference to its financial position as on 31st March, 2025.

Based on supervisory findings of non-compliance with RBI directions and related correspondence, a show-cause notice was issued to the bank. The notice asked the bank to explain why a monetary penalty should not be imposed for failure to comply with the prescribed directions.

After considering the bank’s written response and oral submissions made during the personal hearing, RBI found that the charge against the bank was sustained.

Nature of the Violation

According to RBI, the bank failed to upload the KYC records of customers onto the Central KYC Records Registry (CKYCR), as required under the applicable directions.
